Bottles & can collection - Murray playing fields

The National Carnival is not just about playing footy for fun – it’s also about benefiting the local community and regional economy.

Below is an edited copy of an email from Hermit Park State School P&C Association, sent to the National Carnival Organising committee, about how the Carnival has benefited the local community and regional economy:
Good evening Denise,

Thank you for your email, I was hoping to get back to you with a figure on what we have raised from collecting recycling during the carnival, but I only dropped the bags off on Friday to the Envirobank for counting and haven’t heard back from them yet.

We had a very successful week collecting and sorting the recycling from Murray Stadium and the RSL Stadium. I got heaps more than I expected and all up we filled 63 orange bags full.

The kids had a ball getting to watch the players play and kick the footy on the oval after they helped me and helped clean up the grounds.

Every can, bottle, popper we collected is going towards our fundraising effort for our Ninja Warrior Playground we are trying to build on our Senior Campus.

We want to be the first school in North Qld that hits the $10,000 mark in collecting recycling for the year, we have raised just over $7000 so far since March when we started collecting recycling.

I would like to say thank you very much for letting us come on board with AFL Masters here in Townsville and being so helpful in helping us collect the recycling. I have really appreciated all your help and emails in making this such a successful event for us.

Everyone at the grounds were keen to help us and give the kids any of their empty beers or bottles. I hope the Carnival was a huge success for your committee and everyone enjoyed their time here in Townsville competing and enjoying themselves at all the events you planned.

As soon as I hear back from Envirobank on what we have raised I will let you know. Thanks again Denise and can you please pass on my thank you to Maurie as well for letting us be involved.
