AFL Masters Hall of Fame Inducts Gary Wilson

AFL Masters are pleased to induct Gary Wilson to the AFL Masters Hall of Fame

Gary started his 28 years in Masters during the 1993-94 season at the Cranbourne Superules club, and Captain / Coached Cranbourne from 1993 until 1996.

He was instrumental in the development of clubs such as the Southern Lions, Springvale, and Frankston and throughout his time at these clubs, took on many roles such as, umpire, administrator, board member, president and of course player and coach, and picked up a League Best and Fairest along the way! From 2008 he captain / Coached at Southern Lions / Springvale and Frankston.

In 1997, Gary was a member of the Committee that formed the Masters second division in the Vic Metro competition. Moving on a few years to 2009, he was a member of committee that formed the 47’s Division in Vic Metro, followed by being a member of the group responsible for forming the 55’s Division in Vic Metro in 2019.

Gary also takes the field as an umpire, and has umpired many games in the Vic Metro area since 2003, as well as being an active member of the Vic Metro board for 4 years.

At National Carnivals, Gary has represented Vic Metro in every carnival since 1994! (minus covid years), and has coached 7 times in 50s and 60s divisions. He has picked up some amazing stats along the way – member of divisional winning teams a massive 16 times and picked up best & fairest for 10! In addition is has been names All Australian at 15 carnivals!

Just last year, in 2022, Gary awarded Life membership of AFL Masters Vic Metro.
