It is with great pleasure AFL Masters elevates to legend status from the AFL Masters National Board – Roy Baehnisch.

His long list of involvements and achievements include;

Roy commenced AFL Masters Football in the Northern Territory with his first year in Darwin in 1992. Now, having attended 30 National Carnivals, he has been 8x All Australian in 1992, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2010, and has served as Team Manager for 18 of the carnivals he has attended.

Of those carnivals, Roy has been part of six divisional wins, three times as Captain/Vice Captain. Additionally, he has competed in ten drop kick competitions, winning in 1993 and 1997, recording the 4th longest kick of all time at 62.4 meters.

Roy is not just a carnival player, he also umpires, and has served as a Field or Boundary Umpire for 8 years, as well as playing. He has also being part of the Darwin organising committees in 1999, 2008 and 2013.

At a local level he has umpired 60 local games, and was inducted into the NT Hall of Fame in 2003. And how about this, Roy has been the NT Secretary for 27 consecutive years (1997- 2023).

In 2014, he was also inducted into the AFL Masters National Hall of Fame, and now, less that ten years later we are excited to add ‘legend’ status to his list of achievements.
